Hillary Clinton celebrates decades of marriage to Bill after ‘very hurt’: ‘We’re having a great time’

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton celebrated nearly 50 years of marriage to former President Bill Clinton despite “dark times” during their relationship.
“I’ve been saying this for years, no one really knows what happens in a marriage other than the two people in it. And every marriage I know has ups and downs – not publicly, I hope everyone – and you have to make the right decisions for yourself and I would never tell someone else, ‘stay in a marriage, leave the marriage,’ whatever the simple answer is, to me and to us, I think it’s okay to be very thankful that at this stage of our lives, we have our grandchildren,” Clinton told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in an interview that aired Sunday morning.
Clinton recently published her new memo, “Something Lost, Something Gained,” which includes quotes that “both my marriage and Bill’s presidency were in jeopardy” in the late 1990s. Bill Clinton’s presidency was rocked by a sex scandal in 1998, when the 42nd president admitted to having an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky later that year.
Hillary Clinton did not mention Monica Lewinsky by name in her memoir or during her interview broadcast on Sunday, speaking only of the “dark times” that threaten her marriage or “the worst incident”.

“I write about how we start the morning playing spelling bee in bed. And, you know, Bill is like such a great player. He gets to the Queen Bee almost as quickly as it seems. We have a good time. We have a good time to share this life we’ve lived together for almost 50 years of marriage. That’s what’s good for us, and that’s really my message,” Clinton shared about her marriage during the interview.

“I had to almost have two views about the world in which I was living my reality,” he expressed how he felt at the time of the impeachment. “My truth is, on the one hand, I was very upset, very confused, upset, angry. On the other hand, I knew this was a political ploy to try to drive, you know, Bill out of office, again. I thought he’d been a really good president, and I resented that as an American citizen, that these hypocrites, you know, who had all kinds of issues, you know, marriage and everything, they were after him because of a very bad incident, you know, in his life.

“So on the one hand I’m trying to make a decision about my life, my marriage, my future, my child, my family, that I could make on my own. On the other hand, I saw the hypocrisy and cruelty of that. Those Republicans, you know, members of Congress were doing it, and that that’s the truth that outsiders wouldn’t understand.
“And you know, obviously I got a lot of unsolicited advice from all kinds of viewers, but my friends – and I have a whole chapter in there about how I thank my friends – longtime friends, friends you know, for standing with me, for supporting me, who, in that dark time came to -White House to be with me,” he said.
