A new hard drive based on long-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) technology is almost here. reports that a new sales page appeared on Seagate’s website announcing a new (HDD) with 3TB per plate with three times the capacity per terabyte compared to other hard drives.

The new hard drive is based on Seagate’s innovation and is its first HDD to use HAMR. HAMR refers to a magnetic storage process where local heat is applied to the surface of the disk during writing, allowing for smaller circuits and more space per platter. This and other breakthroughs may one day pave the way to a 50TB HDD. Here is a video from us Raised series that breaks down the entire process and what it means for the future of HDD storage.
