The fire was extinguished after smoke near Dodger Stadium alerted fans

A structure fire on the border of Glassell Park and Cypress Park sent a plume of gray smoke rising over Dodger Stadium Saturday evening, scaring some fans who were there to watch the Dodgers take on the Colorado Rockies.

The Los Angeles Fire Department sent 16 fire companies to the blaze 42 minutes before it was extinguished at 6:37 p.m., according to spokeswoman Margaret Stewart. More than 100 firefighters participated in the effort, he said, and no one was injured.

Asked about the cause of the fire, Stewart said, “The arson of the vehicle is under investigation, per the law” in fire emergencies.

The fire destroyed the 100-by-200-foot, one-story, courthouse-turned-commercial building at 1158 N. San Fernando Road, according to the report. LAFD statement. A nearby two-story building was “protected from injury to workers,” the statement said.

Some baseball fans shared posts on social media of the shock inside Dodger Stadium.

“This thing is growing by the minute,” said another person on X, along with a picture of the stadium looking towards the smoke.

“Uh … there’s a big smoke scene right outside Dodger Stadium,” another wrote.
