3 vitamin supplements the nutritionist says he will never take

There’s a lot of advice about what vitamins and supplements people should be taking for better health – especially on social media.

Amina Khan, a pharmacist in the UK and founder of The Pharmacist Beauty, spoke to her nearly 300,000 followers on TikTok about three supplements she would never take.

“I think you’re going to be surprised by a lot of this,” he said in the video, which has nearly a million views.

1. Gummy vitamins

Although gummy vitamins taste good, Khan considers them “just a sugar pill,” she said.

“You can go eat candy,” she said. “They are full of sugar and fillers, and I know many of you [are] eat these.”

Khan warned that gummy supplements can be “very easily consumed” and can lead to mineral deficiencies.

“Some of these particles don’t even have enough nutrients to affect you,” he added.

2. Regular multivitamins

A multivitamin is often recommended by general practitioners as a good way to get the recommended daily dose of essential nutrients.

But since multivitamins are “rich” in them, Khan noted that some doses of each vitamin are “very low and have no effect on you.”

Khan added that people probably don’t need all the vitamins contained in multivitamins.

3. Vitamins for hair, skin and nails

These types of vitamins have grown in popularity to help with hair and nail growth, as well as clear skin.

Combining all three into one pill is “not focused on the solution,” according to Khan.

“The most important of these vitamins are usually too low to have any effect on you,” he notes.
