Crittendon’s official cause of death was poisoning from fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl, the Virginia Department of Health told TMZ on Monday, October 21. Para-fluorofentanyl is a synthetic opioid, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Crittendon’s death has been ruled an accident.
Us Weekly confirmed in July that Crittendon had died at the age of 27. The Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Us at the time of his death is still under investigation.
TMZ first reported at the time that Crittendon was found unresponsive by her father in her bedroom at their home in Henrico, Virginia. Paramedics are said to have arrived at the scene to provide CPR. Despite attempting life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Crittendon’s older sister Misty shared news of the former MTV star’s passing in a Facebook post that has since been deleted, according to various outlets.

“Your life was taken from you so young, you left before anyone could say goodbye.. how much we love you,” Misty wrote, Connect. “How amazing you are and we are so proud of you for staying drunk through the hardest parts of your life, how far you’ve come from where you were, how thankful we are to have you all these years, how proud we are of you as a mother, how thankful we are for the 3 little pieces of your heart that still go on in this world.”
Crittendon was featured in season 5 of the 16 and Pregnantwhich aired in 2014. The MTV series documented her journey to welcome son Drake, born in December 2013, with her boyfriend at the time. Dustin Franklin.
Although she was featured on the original show, Crittendon was not seen in public following her episode. He later expanded his family with daughter Abigail and son Luke.
In Misty’s tribute letter, she promised her late sister that her young children would be cared for and looked after.
“I will make you proud, I promise. Our lives will never be the same, half of me died with you yesterday and I really don’t know how I’m going to recover from this. But I promise you that I will love life in your honor,” he wrote. “These children will always know how much you love them, how amazing you are, how special you are, how much you sacrificed and won for them, everything and nothing left without you.”
